DKIM, which is an acronym for DomainKeys Identified Mail, is an email validation system, which obstructs email addresses from being forged and email content from being meddled with. This is achieved by attaching a digital signature to every message sent from an email address under a given domain. The signature is generated on the basis of a private key that’s available on the SMTP mail server and it can be validated using a public key, which is available in the global Domain Name System. Thus, any email message with altered content or a forged sender can be recognized by mail service providers. This technology will increase your online safety immensely and you will know for sure that any message sent from a business collaborator, a bank, etc., is authentic. When you send out messages, the recipient will also be sure that you are indeed the one who has sent them. Any email message that turns out to be forged may either be labeled as such or may never show up in the receiver’s mailbox, based on how the given provider has chosen to deal with such messages.
